Little Miss Independent. Little Miss Unafraid. Little Miss Go Her Own Way. Our Little Miss (Missy) is all of that and more. 20 lbs. of 100% pure energy packed into a 10 lb. body! Missy is a 2-year-old chihuahua who came up from Texas to find her forever home in snowy Western New York. And she LOVES the snow – you would never know she wasn’t born here!
Missy is sleek and streamlined, like a high-end sports car. She is strong-willed and determined – and you can’t buy this level of confidence! She loves to be with her people. She loves to cuddle under a blanket to sleep at your feet or play chase with the other dogs in her foster home. She is just as happy tearing up the grass as she rounds the corners in the yard as she is snuggled up under your chin while you binge watch your TV series. Missy “talks” – just like the videos you see of huskies talking back to their parents. When you get home from work, you had better be ready for the play-by-play of the day: who walked by the house, which squirrel dared to run across her lawn, which dog slept all day, and which dog tried to steal her chew toy. Because she is so talkative – and sometimes loud! – Missy is not a fit for apartment living.
She may bark at your guests until she is secure in her new home. If she goes on for too long, she can be gated in another room or put in her crate until she can settle herself and resume good manners. She is crate trained and will quiet down once she is inside. All of her fussing is fear-based, and she does not bite. But your company should know that she may act up, at least until she is comfortable in her new surroundings.
Missy loves to be outside and guards her yard very seriously – beware all rabbits & squirrels & low-flying birds! She will be after them like a laser-focused gun shot. Because of this high prey drive, Missy will require at least a 6 ft stockade or vinyl fence. She can clear 45 inches in one jump when she is determined (to the absolute shock of those who witnessed it!) and she can also climb. This means a chain link fence will not work for her for her own safety.
Somewhere in her history, Missy developed issues with men. Not all men…but it’s hard to know which ones at first glance. She loves all dogs, but is highly selective with humans. She will get there, but you must be patient. Missy has to dictate the pace of the relationship. She will become comfortable, but her family will have to grant her the grace & time to get there. Sorry boys – but you are just gonna have to work extra hard to win the heart of this little lady!
Missy is doing well with her housebreaking. She does go outside to potty and uses the potty pads indoors while her mom is at work. When she arrives at her forever home, however, it should be expected that she may have an accident or two while she adjusts. There will be so many new things to learn, new people to love, new yard to explore – she can’t be perfect with everything all at once.
Missy is working on learning to walk on a leash. She isn’t there completely, but she is trying. Missy will do best with another dog in the house. She would be able to match temperament – if the other dog is chilled out and relaxed, she will know to dial her own energy back. But the flip-side of that: if you have an energizer bunny in your house, Missy will match that until they are both exhausted. She loves dogs and plays non-stop with the other dogs in her foster home.
Missy is a fur-covered ball of fun. She is 100% pure love and will be attached to your hip once she knows she can trust you. She was a street dog who survived on her wits. That is not easily erased, but Missy makes the effort to start fresh every day and put all that behind her. Now she needs a family who can recognize that and stand by her as she continues her journey to becoming the best dog she can be.
Missy is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $350
