Scruffy!!!! And his name completely fits this little scuffball, is ready for his forever home. Scruffy is a 9 year old Border Terrier poodle mix, who can be a little shy at first in new places, but he warms up quickly. Scruffy loves everyone he meets too. All he wants is love and attention. If you don’t give it to him, Scruffy will jump on your lap and paw at you until you pet him. If it’s not enough, believe us, he will continue to ask for more until he’s satisfied. And of course, with those eyes and his head tilt, he’s one that is going to get what he wants. He knows how to work the room.

Scruffy is a local owner surrender. Sadly his owner passed away. With the other family members far away, Scruffy found his way to us. He was loved and well cared for by his previous owners and it shows. Scruffy is a perfect little gent. He appears housebroken, although accidents may occur until he learns your routine. Scruffy is crate trained and loves to go for walks. In fact, he demands a walk daily. There is no ignoring him when he wants to go either. Scruffy is relentless until you just give in. Scruffy enjoys going for car rides too. He will happily sit in the back seat, or passenger seat, as you hit the highway, or run errands. Scruffy also knows some basic commands such as sit, but our favorite is “high five”. It’s so funny to watch him do it over and over again. It’s his favorite trick. At night Scruffy does sleep in his own bed in his foster mama's room. Once in a while, he will make it up into the bed, but he likes his own space overnight.

Back in 2017, Scruffy had some blood work done. His kidney levels were off and he was placed on a kidney diet dog food to help maintain the proper levels. He has had yearly bloodwork since then and his kidney levels have been perfect. We don’t know for sure if he needs to stay on the food forever but if it’s working, we are recommending he stays on it at this time. A 17-pound bag is about $72 but lasts 2.5 months. Scruffy is heartworm negative and has been on prevention his entire life. He recently had a dental completed and a full exam. He is in great health. Scruffy maybe 9 but he still loves to play with the other dogs in his foster home and patrol the yard to make sure the squirrels and birds dare not enter. Scruff has been around kids as young as 8 with no issues. He does not live with cats now but has in the past with no issues.
