Lou's Sponsorship Page
Lou is now available for adoption! He is a 5 year old Shiba Inu weighing about 28 pounds. Lou is originally from an Ohio puppy mill that was adopted out locally but unfortunately found his way to a shelter after it did not work out in that home. Mill dogs need time and patience - they are not plug in dogs. After his past rescue and adopters failed him, we vowed that we will take our time in finding him the right home. Lou has come far in his foster home but it is time to find him a forever home. Yes, he is still skittish and nervous and will be for a while in his new home. He enjoys being outside and is less afraid of people outdoors. He is happy to sit with you on the deck and will approach for some well deserved back scratches. Lou will need a fully fenced 6 ft stockade fence as he can be a flight risk and his last home felt he was looking for a way to escape. He should have another dog in his home too. Having another dog in his new home gives will give him a level of comfort so that he can gain confidence and learn from them. He will watch and see the other dog going up to people, and notice that the other dog is calm and unstressed if the dishwasher starts or another noise occurs. It gives them a level of trust having another dog around. Lou will take treats nicely and loves cheese and chicken! He also likes a good brush out. He is fine with cats. Lou is crate trained and will walk on a leash. He seems to be housetrained if he is let out regularly but please expect accidents as he adjusts to his new surroundings. Ideally, we would love a home with Shiba experience and also some basic understanding of puppy mill dog behaviors. Please do some research on puppy mills if you have not heard of them. Lou is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated, and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $350
