Learn more about the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Meet Ranger! Ranger is a 7 year old Cavalier King Charles who was recently released from a breeder where he was the family pet. He is approximately 17 pounds, but could stand to gain about 3 more to be his ideal weight. He shouldn’t gain much more than that since Ranger does have a disability, but he doesn’t think so. He thinks he is exactly the same as any other dog, which makes him extra special. We were told, that when Ranger was a puppy, his mother chewed off his back paw. Why that happened, we have no idea. But this boy never stops wagging his tail. Sometimes he gets so excited Rangers little leg wags as well. It is adorable! Ranger has adjusted to the loss of his paw just fine, and we do not think any additional care will be needed for it.

Ranger is definitely a foster favorite. Talk about a dog who is beyond loving and affectionate. He wants nothing more in life than to snuggle up on the couch with his favorite people. He has absolutely no problem climbing up on the couch, or even getting to the back of the couch. He tends to perch himself in the window of his foster home and watch the world outside. Oh and speaking of outside, Ranger loves to be outside. He will explore every inch of his yard over and over again. He will chase the squirrels that run along the fence. He is determined to catch one,  one day. Ranger is nervous when it comes to a leash, and he will freeze up initially. This is a skill he is working on. For this reason a home with a fence would probably be best for him.

This guy is everyone’s best friend. He gets along great with other dogs of various sizes. He does not currently live with cats, but based on his personality, he should have no problem getting along with them. Ranger is doing well on his house training. Just be prepared for accidents to take place initially as he learns your routine. Keep in mind he is a freshly neutered male, so marking will take place the first couple days. Don’t worry though, he will wear a belly band with no problem to protect your home. After a couple days the marking does stop. Ranger is not good in a crate. He actually hates it, and tends to bark in the crate. And he has a deep bark. Ranger may not be the best companion if you live in an apartment. Ranger is happy to sleep the day away in a comfy bed in the kitchen while you are away. If you are home though, be prepared to be kept warm and cozy with the “Cavalier blanket”, aka, his body. He will climb all over you to be as close as possible.

If Ranger sounds like the man of your dreams, make sure to apply today. We are sure he won’t be around for long.

Ranger is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  His adoption fee is $475
