Learn more about the Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler.

We want you to meet Rosie! She's got quite a story and a heartbreaking past. Rosie is a 3-year-old Cattle dog/Terrier mix who originally came to us from the South. She's about 30 pounds of pure love and affection, sometimes a little too affectionate. She adores her family and will do anything to get those belly rubs.

When Rosie was first found on the streets, it was hard to believe she was even a dog. If you look at her before photos, she looks more like a goat than a dog. She was dehydrated, emaciated, anemic due to parasites, hairless due to severe mange, and to top it off, she tested positive for heartworm. She was scared and hiding under a car. We believe that at one point she had a family. That family could not care for her and dumped her on the streets to fend for herself. Slowly, she began to heal, one step at a time. First, she began a heavy dose of antibiotics to help clear up any infections and fluids to help with the dehydration. Along with the antibiotics, Rosie was given regular medicated baths and a strong dewormer to get rid of those parasites that were making her anemic. As you can imagine, this was not an overnight process for Rosie. This took months of care that started in October of 2023. Finally, in February of 2024, she was healthy enough for a spay surgery. At this time, it was discovered that Rosie suffered from pyometra, which is a serious infection of the uterus. After healing from the spay, now it was time to start the heartworm treatment. Rosie was placed on an antibiotic to prevent further infections during the treatment and given 2 injections of Immiticide along with pain medication.

And here we are today. After months of healing and recovering, Rosie is on her final steps to a happily ever after. She is quite honestly a nearly perfect dog. She loves her people very much and is a foster favorite. This little gal has been through a lot already, but her story proves just how forgiving a dog truly is. Rosie is never far behind her foster mama. She is housebroken, crate-trained, and excellent on the leash. Rosie enjoys car rides too. Anything she can do with you, Rosie is up for. If you are looking for a walking buddy, Rosie would be perfect. Hiking? Yep, Rosie is up for that; camping? Sure, Rosie will go! She wants to do whatever you are doing. Rosie loves to play with toys in the backyard and is a champion fetch player. She gets along great with other dogs and is very smart.

There just isn't enough love in the world for Rosie. If you are sitting on the couch, Rosie will be there too. Be prepared to meet "the paw". Very slowly she will raise her paw and pull your arm to pet her chest and belly. If you move your hand away, "the paw" is coming back for you. You can't stop until she says it's ok. When you rub her head, right between her ears, Rosie's eyes close and you see that smile of hers appear. If Rosie really thinks she is trouble, her ears will go flat against her head and she will flip over on her back. At which point you can't help but rub that belly of hers. She is just too sweet. Her face is full of scars around her eyes and snout. One look at her and your heart will melt as you think of what this beautiful baby has been through. How could anyone stay mad at her for long? You can't, it's just not possible. When Rosie is in the yard, it makes us smile as she does her zoomies, or shakes and tosses her toys. To watch her be a happy dog is amazing. Even the simple things she does, like sun bathing on the back deck, make you stop to think how cruel some people truly can be.

At night, she will curl up in bed with you. But first, she makes sure to give you plenty of kisses good night, along with some nibbles on your hand. She is a dog that knows she has been saved and is thankful to be in a comfy home with a comfortable bed, a cozy couch, and plenty of food. In return, she will give unconditional love.

Rosie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and treated for heartworm.  Rosie will need to remain on heartworm prevention for the rest of her life.  Her adoption fee is $400
