Learn more about the Chihuahua.

Kora is a 3-year-old, 4-pound Chihuahua who embarked on a journey to Western New York in November. Her journey has been quite remarkable. Kora was initially surrendered to a shelter in Texas because of a spine injury. She was diagnosed with IVDD (intervertebral disc disease), and her prognosis was not good. The shelter believed that Kora would never be able to walk again. However, when we saw her face, we knew that Kora's best chance was to come to WNY and join the Pixies.

Kora has worked really hard to improve her health and is now ready to find her forever home. She can now walk independently using all four feet, although she may appear a little unsteady at first. She cannot climb stairs, so she will need to be carried up and down. Kora is currently taking steroids as part of her treatment and may need to continue taking them for the rest of her life. Due to her injury, she cannot be placed in a home with young children under 12 years old. If there are other dogs in the home, they must weigh no more than 20 pounds.

Kora is a pretty little princess with an amazing personality and a true fighting spirit. She gets along great with other dogs, but she will make sure they know she is around. If a dog gets too close to her while she is napping, Kora will let them know she is there by growling as they walk by. Kora has not been around cats in her foster home, but we can only assume she would be fine with them.

Kora is crate trained, although in her foster home, she is not really in a crate. She is kept in a pen to give her more room to walk around, but yet keep her safe while her mama is at work. Being in the pen also allows her more room to potty as needed. At this time, Kora is not housebroken, but she will use potty pads. She likes to go outside and enjoys the sunshine, but due to her restricted movement during the healing process, she has been kept inside as much as possible during the cold weather.

Kora likes to play with toys, but more than that she likes to bite at and play with your hands. In most ways, she is a typical happy dog. Kora has no idea she is different than other dogs in her foster home. She is excellent in the car and wants to be wherever her family is. She's not a big barker and would be appropriate for an apartment or condo.

Kira is only 4 pounds, so when she meets new people, sometimes Kora can be nervous and a little nippy. But once she knows you mean her no harm, Kora is full of kisses.

If you think you can provide a safe home for her to continue to heal. Make sure you apply today.
