Learn more about the Chihuahua. Meet Victoria! Victoria is a 4 year old chihuahua terrier mix. She was originally found as a stray in Texas with her four pups. Knowing she needed help we quickly sprang into action bringing everyone to WNY for their safety. The pups have long since been adopted and Victoria is still waiting for her family. Victoria is our longest-term foster. She has been with us for over 3 years now. She also is a dog that has had one of the biggest transformations, thanks to all of our volunteers working together. She is doing amazing, compared to where she started, and we truly believe she is ready for her forever home.
Victoria has many of the qualities that people look for. She is fully housebroken and completely crate trained. She loves to chill on the couch and will sleep in bed with you all night. Victoria can often be found relaxing on the back deck soaking up the sun. She’s a true Southern dog. The heat does not bother her at all. Victoria tends to be everywhere her foster family is. In the living room, there’s Victoria, in the kitchen, oh look there she is! Yes even in the bathroom. She wants to be with her people. When her mom comes home from work, Victoria is jumping and bounces all over her. She’s not a barker and gets along great with other dogs. In fact, she does require at least one other confident, affectionate dog in the home. Someone she can cuddle up with and play with. She loves to play and wrestle with the other dogs in her foster home. That game of chase is a lot of fun!! Squirrels do not stand a chance of entering her yard either, Victoria is bound and determined to keep them out. As soon as she seems one, she’s off. And this girl is fast!
At one point Victoria was terrified of people. Now you will see her at events, approaching people at the pen and taking treats from visitors. In her foster home, when new people come over, Victoria will hang out with everyone. She doesn’t try to hide anymore. She actually likes people. She will stand on the back of the couch with her front feet on the stranger's shoulder. Victoria will let them pet her too, if done correctly. Reaching over her head is scary to Victoria. But if you start under the chin, work your way up around to her ears she is far more comfortable. From there they may be lucky enough to get all the to her hiney. Those butt scratches seal the deal. They are the best!
Victoria is considered a flight risk initially. She does require a fully fenced yard, no electric fences for her. She should drag a leash outside for the first week, until she gets to know you and her home. Once she attaches herself to you, Victoria has no desire to leave her home. That is her safe spot. You are her safety and security. Victoria has been around children of various ages from 1-14. Small children scare her with their fast sudden movements. For that reason we do feel a home with older kids (12+) would be best for her. If you have the smaller visitors come, Victoria will avoid them and she will be happy to relax in her crate for a little while.
If you think you can continue to help Victoria grow and thrive, make sure you apply today. This beautiful baby deserves an amazing home.
Victoria is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $350
