Jack Russell Terrier (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Small
Learn more about the Jack Russell Terrier. Baby Girl is ready for her happy ever after! Although she came from Texas as Baby Girl she never answered to it. We tried out a few different names and she decided to answer to Penny or Penny Lou as her foster dad affectionately calls her.
Penny is a 5 year old, 12 pound tri-colored Jack Russel mix who was dumped at a shelter with pyometra which her owners couldn’t / wouldn’t get treated. She was spayed immediately which took care of that and then she, unfortunately, tested positive for heartworm. She has been through heartworm treatment and is doing great. She will need to be on heartworm preventative for her lifetime. Penny is a very laid back little girl who loves nothing better than to follow the sun in her fosters living room and nap. She’s not a huge fan of toys but loves a cow hoof to chew on. She shares her home with 3 large dogs and a cat with no issues other than normal curiosity about the cat. Penny appears to be housebroken and will dance around to let you know when it’s time. Please understand that she may have an accident as she transitions into your home and routine. She has a fully fenced yard in her foster home but walks well on a leash so a fence isn’t a necessity. She is also crate trained. It is not her favorite place but she will go in willingly when we need her to. Penny loves her foster family more than anything but is fearful of new people. She takes a few minutes of gentle coaxing to warm up. She can also sometimes be very protective of “her person” when sitting by them when strangers are around. She hasn’t bitten anyone but she will jump up and bark and growl. We have been working on that behavior but due to this, we think a home with older children (teenage) or an adult-only home would be best for her. Overall Penny is a sweet little dog who will make a great companion for the right person. She is very much a lap dog and is extremely loyal to the people she loves. She has been through a lot these past few months and we wish nothing more than for her than to find a family who will love her forever! If you think that is with you please apply! Penny is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated. Her adoption fee is $400
