Shih Tzu / Mixed (long coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Small
Learn more about the Shih Tzu. This handsome fellow has the best mug ever! Abner is a local little dog that needed rescue to help him find the perfect home. He was originally found running in the city on a very busy street and thankfully there were kind people that stopped traffic to save him!! Abner is about 5 years old and 11 pounds. We believe he is a Shih Tzu mix, maybe with Brussels Griffon. Abner is a happy guy that has been a joy in his foster home. He loves to snuggle up in a warm dog bed and has made himself little blanket beds if all the beds are occupied! He will find a spot under his foster mom's desk and hang out with her while she works. Abner is still a bit skittish when his foster mom reaches for him but he quickly realizes he is safe. His initial thought is "am I in trouble?" We don't know what happened to him in the past but things are looking brighter buddy! He is a little bossy with one of the foster dogs in his home - they both came in at the same time and were not neutered so we think that is where it stems from. He gets along with everyone else in his foster home though. He is working on his housetraining and is doing well with it. He will still need some additional time to adjust to a new routine in a new home. On occasion, he will use pee pads if needed. Abner likes to be outside and enjoys running with the dogs and chasing them down Abner is crate trained and will use one without issue. He barks at new people but will settle down when the commotion and excitement stop. Most important, Abner will require a fully fenced yard ( NO invisible fences). Abner is not leash trained and the leash scares him - he wants no part of it. He is a flight risk and his instincts tell him to run. We also will not be placing him with young kids - gates and doors must be kept closed and secure! We need to keep this little guy safe! Cats are no issue for him although he will bark. Abner has been recently been groomed and will need regular grooming throughout his life. Please keep that in mind if you are considering Abner to be part of your family. Abner is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $450
