Chihuahua / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Small
Learn more about the Chihuahua. Learn more about the Miniature Pinscher. Long and leggy Ozzie is available for adoption! This handsome and unusual looking boy hails from Texas originally where he was rescued from horrid conditions with his canine family. We believe they are mixed breed dogs, all small. Chihuahua, dachshund and Min Pin seem to be the most prevalent. With Ozzie's bright blue eyes, we know there is likely double merle/dapple mix breed in there. We also know that because of this, Ozzie is hearing impaired, But before you move on - take a minute to read about this special dog! First and foremost, in spite of his lacking of hearing, Ozzie is a happy, loving and playful dog and if you didn't know he was deaf, you would only see a crazy fun dog! Deaf dogs learn to pay close attention to their surroundings to understand what is going on. He follows the other dogs in his foster home and responds to their cues on going outside and coming in. We think it is imperative that he has at least one other dog in his home to learn from. He does well with small and medium size dogs and should be ok with larger, gentle dogs. He is a busy boy that needs toys and chewies to keep him occupied. He thinks everything is a toy so you have to make sure he has his own! Ozzie is still a little shy when you reach to pick him up and hold him - he is just not used to it. He likes to be pet and get attention but he is unsure of being picked up right now. He will come running when you are playing or petting other dogs for his turn to get attention. Ozzie loves treats and that has been a help with gaining his trust. He is not aggressive at all - just a little timid but his tail never stops wagging! We know it won't be long before all those bad memories are in his past! Ozzie is often curled up under his foster mom's desk, snuggling with other dogs and burrowing under blankets. She can easily reach down to pet him and he is happy to give her some licks! Ozzie can feel vibrations but does not always respond to them so we sometimes have to wake him up to let him know it's time to start the day! Ozzie is not happy in a crate, even with his brother. He will cry and whine. He would be happier in a gated area when left alone. He is slowly being introduced to a leash but is still learning. Ozzie will require a fenced in yard (NO invisible fences) in his new home and off-leashing will never be allowed, Remember, he cannot hear you call him to come back or if cars are approaching if he is near a street. He loves being outside at his foster home and even this yucky weather hasn't stopped his outdoor playtime! He is still working on his housetraining and will need more work in his new home. He is currently wearing a belly band when he can't be monitored. Kids would be fine as long as they are older and understand Ozzie cannot hear. Ozzie is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $350 but IF he is adopted with another Pixie Mamas dog, we will lower it to $300.
