Learn more about the Chihuahua. Look at those legs! Those ears! Nina, Nina, Pretty Ballerina – graceful & lean, strong yet delicate. This beautiful lady was found with her sisters in an abandoned trailer in Texas, surrounded by rotting food, broken furniture, filth and garbage. Just as bad as the images we have all seen on that awful TV show. For Nina, this wasn’t just on the screen where we can change the satiation when it gets to be too much – she lived it. Her origin story was heart-breaking and bleak, but you would never know that when you look at her now. Nina is 2 years old with unique brown-on-brown markings. Her colors bleed together like hot fudge melting on coffee ice cream. Deep dark eyes, so desperately wanting to trust, love, and be loved. She is a work in progress but is certainly succeeding at this game of life. Nina is high-energy, she flips into “go mode” at the drop of a hat. She plays hard and loves hard, but is learning how to properly socialize and be more gentle with everyone around her. When she should have been getting those life lessons, she was focused on basic survival. It was a hand-to-mouth existence in that terrible environment, but she managed to hold her own and that strength is evident in everything she does. She may be a little clumsy. She may be a little bit awkward, but she is a fast learner and wants to be part of the family. She knows her goal and works toward it. Nina can be a little timid with new people. She will approach for pets, and then retreat until she is more confident. Once she has decided to trust, then she is all over you like syrup on pancakes! Nina stands guard in her foster home and takes that role seriously. She will alert you when someone is coming close to her home, then wait for cues from you to determine if all is safe with this new person. She has a big bark in her little body but isn’t a chatty girl. She barks for a reason and once she feels she has been properly heard, she will be done. Nina loves to play - with the soft squeaky toys and the other dogs in her home. She also loves to shred paper – so make sure the mail isn’t sitting where she can reach it! She runs like the wind in her fenced-in yard, slamming into her sisters on those skidding turns, racing free with the sun on her face and the wind in her ears. Because of her speed, we need a fenced-in yard for Nina in her forever home. Invisible fencing cannot be considered. Nina is using potty pads during the day like a champ because her foster mom works. She also goes potty outside without issue. Sometimes she wants to stay out…you may have to bribe her with a treat to get her back in if the weather is fine and she is having fun. Please be patient as she learns the routine in her new home – there may be accidents as she figures things out. Nina is very excited when her people come home. She barks when she sees you. She chases her tail. She is up on those back legs dancing and wiggling her butt. So much love! So much joy! You can’t help but smile at her – and that is the best way to wrap up any day. Nina is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $400
