Attention Walkers……we have a dog that NEEDS YOU!!  Nini is an 11 year old min pin who was surrendered to a local shelter with her sister by her owners because they were having a baby.  Although sad for Nini it was probably a good thing for her as at the time of surrender she was morbidly obese.  Nini was almost 23 pounds with elevated liver enzymes and pain and weakness in her back end from carrying so much weight around for so long.

Good News!  After being in her foster home for 6 months on a portion-controlled diet (no special food) and regular exercise she is down to a healthy 14 pounds.  Her liver enzymes returned to normal and she is so active and happy now.  She does still have some hanging skin which we hope will somewhat tighten up eventually and one of her back legs bows out but it doesn’t slow her down at all.

Bad News! When Nini went in for she spay they did find cancer on her ovary.  The ovary was removed and everything else “looked good” but there is a chance that something could’ve been missed.  If she was a young dog chemo would have been an option just in case but unfortunately, that’s not an option for her.  The vet suggested we adopt her out as a hospice dog as she has a 50/50 chance everything was indeed removed and she can live out the rest of her years as normal.

Nini LOVES To walk.  She starts screaming and jumping all over as soon as she sees her harness.  She takes 4 walks a day for a total of one mile and she loves every minute of it!!  She is good on a leash, fast to and loves to meet new people on her adventures.  Daily walks will be required for Nina to maintain her weight loss and to keep her healthy and active.  Nini will need an owner who does NOT feed people food and will be strict about her portion sizes as we already know she puts on the pounds quite easily and we don’t want her back to where she started.  She no longer begs when her foster family is eating and just lays in her dog bed until they are finished which makes it easier.

Nini was introduced to cats with no issue and is fostered with other dogs and gets along with them quite well. The young active ones drive her nuts and would not be a good match but another senior or low energy dog that doesn’t want to play and doesn’t knock her over would be great.  She does guard her food with both people and dogs but she eats in 2.5 seconds so it's usually not a problem.  She loves dog beds and She loves blankets and burrows in them so well you don’t even know she is there. Once Nini is asleep or comfortable in her bed she does not like to be disturbed so if you need her you do have to warn her or she will snap at you.  Same with a crate, should you choose to use one.  For this reason, we do not feel she should go to a home with kids under 12.  NiNi is vocal when she hears strange noises and sounds and will bark so apartments are not going to be considered for her.

Nini likes to be pet and loved and she likes to sit on the couch next to you but she cannot get up on her own even with stairs so you would have to pick her up and put her up there.  She can get down with the stairs though.  She does not sleep in a bed (her choice) but enjoys a dog bed on the floor next to her foster mom.  Nini barks if someone is around but is not a huge barker in her foster home, she is friendly to strangers when they visit as long as they are kind to her.

Nini is a good girl who has worked really hard on her weight loss. She has been dealt a crappy hand in life this far but we feel she is still very deserving of that forever home!   She needs to go to a home where someone will be diligent about her diet and exercise.  Someone who is looking for a walking buddy is ideal.  If you think this sweet senior is a match for you please apply.  She is looking forward to her happy ever after!!

NiNi is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $250
