Learn more about the Chihuahua. This tiny beauty is Winter. Winter is a 2 year-old chihuahua mix. Delicate. Petite. Gentle. Long ballerina legs and a tiny waist. She has deep, dark eyes that are always following you. She is ready to run and play…she is ready to sit and snuggle…and she is always ready for a snack! We can’t forget those ears – everyone loves those ears! The color of her coat is a cross between cinnamon and caramel, sleek and close to her body. She is a burrower. She will be asleep on your feet under the blanket when it is bed time.
Winter considers herself the protector of her home and takes her role very seriously. She barks when new people come in – until she knows they are not there to cause you trouble. She barks when strangers walk by – what if those people try to come in and harm her people? She barks when the wind blows and when a leaf falls on the driveway – everybody knows you can’t trust a leaf! She doesn’t bark for long, but when she has something to say, this girl is certainly going to say it. The Snow Queen will be heard! For this reason, Winter is not suited for apartment living.
Winter loves to cuddle and be held. She is so small she can fold into the tiniest space between you and the arm of the couch. Or wiggle into the space between the top of your shoulder and side of your neck to sleep. Even directly under your chin when you are trying to watch television on the couch. She is very curious and wants to be involved in everything. When you are trying to do something, she will race ahead of you – looking back over her shoulder to make sure you are still behind her – even though she has no idea what your plan is. Doesn’t matter – she feels she is a vital part of whatever it is. She is the secret ingredient that makes everything perfect.
Winter loves to go outside and is going potty outside with the other dogs in her foster home. She uses potty pads while her foster mom is at work and is doing really well with that. When she does find her forever home, there may be an accident or two as she learns a new routine. Please be patient with her. She loves to please her people and is a very fast learner. She tries her best and won’t quit till she succeeds. She is small but mighty.
Winter has a fenced-in yard in her foster home and due to her incredible speed, she should have one in her forever home. Even though she comes when she is called and truly never wants to leave the side of her person, Winter is very quick when she wants to be and will be safest if she has a contained area to run.
Winter loves to run and play. She has a small quirk about being picked up – she wants to run the show. Rather than you scooping her up, she wants to jump into your arms. With those legs – it can be quite a jump, so you always have to be ready. Her foster mom is working on teaching her that it is ok to be picked up like a normal dog – there is no need for these dramatic leaps. Nobody likes a show-off! This is still a work in progress.
Due to her size, Winter would need a home with older children; little ones may not understand how careful they need to be with her delicate bone structure. Winter did fine with cats when she met them. She is not leash trained but has become comfortable wearing the body harness. Another work in progress.
Winter is full of love and can’t wait to share it with people around her. She is a great little watch dog and would probably be magnificent in agility classes. If you love a sassy girl who know her own mind but can also snuggle up a storm – Winter is the girl for you!
Winter is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $400
