“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.” -Rocky Balboa, 2006
Dumped at a high-kill shelter in Texas, Mama Willow struggled to feed and protect her pups. Rescued hours before they were scheduled for death, this little family was whisked off to Buffalo to start a new life. Shortly after arrival, Mama Willow was diagnosed with Parvo, a vicious and deadly disease – easily prevented by a vaccine she was never given. Her pups were taken from her for their own safety as she fought for her life in the vet hospital. The pups were very small and the vet informed us that there was a high chance that all of the pups would be dead within the next 48 hours.
The puppies were closely monitored in their foster home. Daily trips to the vet for antibiotic injections. Bottle feedings every 2 hours. Isolated in a spare room with extra heaters for they were too small to regulate their own body temperature. After several stressful, high-risk weeks, they grew strong. The vets were astonished that all of them had survived! Although exposed to Parvo through their mother, somehow none of them actually contracted the deadly disease. These pups were hit hard and kept moving forward. Like Sylvester Stallone said - that is what winning looks like!
Mama Willow is a Dachshund (and maybe beagle?) mix and weighs about 25 lbs. now that she is becoming healthy again. With the breed of the father unknown, we anticipate these pups to grow into mid-sized dogs. Rocky is named after one of the most famous boxing movie stars in the world, but this Rocky’s bravado is completely false. He wants love and attention…and he will seek it after someone else has paved the way...once he sees it is safe, he will run up and claim all the credit. He loves to play. He loves kids, adults, other dogs – once he is secure in his surroundings, there is no stopping him! He is a handsome tri-color boy – look at those eyebrows! He is starting to learn about potty pads, but being this young it is completely a hit & miss process. He sees the older dogs using the pads and sometimes copies them, but he has not completely connected the potty-training dots yet.
As a puppy he is a blank slate – he is a sponge absorbing everything around him at all times. He will need training to be his best self. Please be patient while he is learning – he is still a baby and was taken from his mom very early in his life. His life experiences are fragmented, rough around the edges, and unpolished. He needs love, attention, and patience so he can become the beautiful dog he is meant to be.
Rocky is up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated. His neuter is scheduled for july 22nd and will be the responsibility of the adopter to take him- therefore we are requiring a spay/neuter contract to be signed at the time of adoption (the cost of the spay/neuter is included in the adoption fee and fully explained in the contract). His adoption fee is $400
