Dachshund (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Small
Learn more about the Dachshund. Ginger was surrendered by her owner in Texas when she was placed in convalescent care. She was said to be 3 years old but once evaluated by our vet he said more like 6-8. Ginger has had a tough past. She only has one eye and we are not sure why but we assume she sustained some type of injury. She was not spayed, has scars on her body, she was heartworm positive and was full of mammary tumors. Ginger has since been spayed. The large mammary tumors have been removed and she was treated for Heartworm. She will need to be on preventative for her lifetime but that is fairly inexpensive. She does have some mammary tumors remaining that are pea sized. The vet said in order to remove them he would have to do a radical surgery which is painful and not in her best interest. He recommends monitoring the tumors and having them removed as they grow in size. Now that she is spayed they will be slow growing. Please know that she will definitely need future surgeries in her lifetime and you must be able to financially take on that responsibility if you adopt her. Now for the good stuff!!! Ginger is a very nice dog. She is cute and has the best doxie ears! She loves the warm weather and loves to roll around in the grass! She is very people and dog friendly. She loves everyone she meets. She is so happy and her tail is always wagging. She has only had one accident in her foster home and that was in the very beginning. She is smart and learned the doggy door right away! She walks pretty good on a leash, is great in the car and loves going to Home Depot (not sure why). She prances through Petsmart like she owns the place and is very happy to go anywhere with you. She loves food and we think she got lots of people food in her last home as she was white the little begger and seemed insulted when she was presented with dog food. She has decided now that dog food isn’t so bad and that she gets fed plenty and doesn’t need to beg anymore. Ginger is a wonderful dog. Her personality is great. She loves the couch and all the blankets you can offer her. Sometimes her foster mom has to hunt for her because she buries herself so well you can’t find her lol. Although we know Ginger does present with some medical issues her personality is sure to win you over and we hope she will find the best home ever. She has earned it. If you think Ginger is a match for you please apply Ginger is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped and flea/worm treated. Her adoption fee is only $125 to help contribute to her medical bills.
