Learn more about the Chihuahua.

Betsy is a one year old chihuahua mix!  She came from Texas after her owners dumped her in a shelter because they thought she was pregnant.  It ended up she was not which was good for her!  She was however heartworm positive!  She has since been treated and  will need to be on heartworm preventative for her lifetime!

Betsy is the most loyal chihuahua in the world to her person.  She is initially fearful but after 2/3 days once she knows you won’t hurt her she will be your best friend in the entire world.  We aren’t sure what kind of past she had but she does not trust easily.  When she is afraid though she does not bite she just barks and shrieks .  Betsy would do best in a quiet home, no young kids, where she can just feel safe with the people she loves!

Betsy enjoys other little dogs but again it’s once she gets to know them.  Any new dog, person or situation will initially scare her. Once she felt safe (about 2/3 days) she opened up and now plays with her foster brothers and sisters all day long!  She is working on crate training and has improved immensely.  She used to emit this high pitched shriek every time but seems to tolerate Short periods.  I don’t think however she would do well crated for long periods of time (or a full work day).  We tried gating her and she climbs them so that was not really an option for her.

Betsy is mostly housebroken (weather dependent) with a fenced years and will sometimes use pee pads in her foster home.  Most of her accidents have been first thing in the morning as she’s an early riser and has to poop immediately.  We have found it by the door so she has attempted but just didn’t get let out in time.

Betsy has not been cat tested.  She doesn’t seem to have any aggression issues or prey drive so we wouldn’t anticipate any issues there but if you have a cat we can see how things go at the home visit.

Betsy loves couch time, belly rubs and sleeping with her foster mom at night.  She is her little shadow and wants nothing more then to be with her always.  We know she will make a wonderful companion for someone and are so excited to find her forever home!

Betsy is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated.  Her adoption fee is $400
