Learn more about the Chihuahua. Rex-a-Roni is ready for his forever home. This 2 year old Chihuahua Jack Russell Terrier mix traveled from Texas to find is forever home. Talk about a great little guy. He would be a perfect addition to just about any home. Rex loves people! He is the greeter of all who enter his foster family's home. Rex gets along great with other dogs. He has been around kids as young as 8 with no problems. He may be a small guy but he is full of spunk. Rex loves to play with the other dogs but he also loves to play with his toys. He is a pro at fetch! You can throw the toy all day for him and he will bring it back every time no problem. If you are busy though, Rex is content to play by himself as well. He is excellent on a leash and loves to go for walks. He will pull initially because he is so excited but then Rex settles down and walks like a perfect gentleman. Rex is perfectly crate trained and barley says a word in the crate. In fact Rex is not a barker at all. He is more of a lover. At night he is the one that is under the covers first so he can get the best spot, up against his foster mama with his head on her legs. He doesn't move much at night either. In fact he has to be woken up in the mornings to go outside. Then he is right back in bed, under the covers, until breakfast is served. After breakfast, then Rex is ready to play and go. Rex enjoys running in the backyard with his foster siblings and even will get the oldest dog to play with him, briefly. He is a happy go lucky pup that just makes everyone smile. Rex is very food motivated and will do anything for a treat. He can take them a little rough at times, so you do need to remind him to take it gently. He also likes to hand play. That too can be a little rough at times. He does not intentionally try to hurt you, he just gets so excited and carried away he can't help himself. Again though, with a reminder, or an introduction of a toy, he will stop chewing on your hand. He is still young and going through a crazy phase. Rex does know a few basic commands like sit, come and stay. He will hold his stay as you walk away for about 30 seconds. He's getting better at it. Really he just wants to be with you so he tends to want to follow behind you. Rex is a fairly newly neutered male. He may mark initially when in a new home. He responds to correction very well. A firm "no pee pee" and he stops. Rex knows what to when he is outside, he just needs a reminder here and there to go out. He has his tells when he needs to go. It's very clear. He will get his nose to the ground and start sniffing and circling. When he does that, it's time to go out. Sometimes he will use a pee pad if we don't catch him in time. But since he knows to go out, that is strongly encouraged. Rex will even go out in the rain and cold. He does not seem to mind at all. In the evening, after dinner, Rex loves to sit right on his foster mama's lap. He is all about the snuggles and kisses. He really is a well rounded little gem of a fella. If you think Rex would be a match for your family, make sure you apply today! Rex is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated, and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $400
