Learn more about the Dachshund. Learn more about the Silky Terrier. Oh Penny - her story tugged at our heart strings and we think it will do the same to you. Penny's owner passed away and the 'loving family' decided to just euthanize her. Someone heard and felt pity, so they took her in - just as they were making the transition, Penny bolted into the woods, lost and terrified. She came out of the woods was attacked by the home owner's dogs! She has the scars and scabs of this. Although traumatized yet again, she was finally safe with our wonderful rescue friends in Texas. And we promised them and Penny that we would find her a home to love and cherish her forever! Penny is about 4 years old and weighs 25 pounds. Although we do not know her exact mix, she looks like Silky terrier or yorkie/dachshund mix. She is long and short to the ground and has the silver coloring of a yorkie - she is just beautiful. Penny immediately bonded to her foster mom - we were nervous that another transition would set her back but she must have felt safe at last. She showed us right away that she was ready to be a pet again and the stray dog life was not for her! Penny is good with other dogs of all sizes and will play with the foster pups in the yard. She doesn't care about the cats in her foster home at all. She is always near her foster mom unless she is playing. Penny is so happy to see her foster mom every time she comes home! She does very well in the crate. We started working on her leash skills but because of her past history of running, we feel a fenced yard would be the best for her (no invisible fences though). She is doing great with her housetraining - she will use the potty pad if we do not get her outside in time. Please expect some adjustment time and accidents do happen. We have not tested her with kids but do not feel there will be an issue if they are gentle and loving with Penny. She does know some basic commands and is obedient. She wants to please her foster mom and you can see every time that she looks at her. This gentle little dog will be a wonderful and loyal companion to you. We are excited to give her the home she deserves! Penny is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $400
