Our sweet shy little George is ready for adoption. Like many of our dogs, George traveled from Texas in the hopes of finding his forever home. We do not know much about his past, but it is clear he was not treated kindly, or have much human contact. When George first arrived, he would run and cower if his foster mama tried to touch him. After a few months in rescue, George has come a long way! He will now run up to his foster mom and jump on her. There are times that he still backs away, but he is learning to trust and enjoy people.
George is a work in progress. We fully expect him to regress a little, but with time and patience George will thrive and blossom into the dog we know he can be. George finds comfort in other dogs. In order to help him move forward, and continue to trust people, George should have another young, playful, confident dog in his forever home. He has learned so much from the dogs in his foster home. He now knows what toys are and how to play. He really thinks the squeaky toys are so much fun. George is like a puppy learning so many new things all the time. In fact, he loves playing so much now, that even a piece of paper seems fun. George will prance around the house with his toys, or chasing the other dogs to get them to play. George is crate trained, but it is clear it makes him very uncomfortable. He would prefer to be behind a gate, in the kitchen, or in another room while you are away. He is working very hard on his house training. George enjoys being outside, and knows exactly what to do when he goes out, but it is up to you to let him out regularly. When outside, George must have a secure fence. He cannot use an electric fence or tie out. He is fearful of new situations, and loud noises. Even trucks going by make him look, tuck his tail, and back away a little. He will look to his foster mom for reassurance to know that he is safe. Due to the fact that loud noises scare him, George would do best in a quiet home with children over 12. The loudness and activity of smaller children make him nervous. When new people come over, George will just ignore them initially. After a couple visits though, George will greet them with the rest of the dogs. George loves to sit on the couch and sleep in bed. In fact, that is when he true personality emerges, when he is getting ready for bed each night. George will roll around and sleep directly on top of his person. When he is on the couch, he tends to snuggle in and rest his head on the other dogs in his home.
George has so much love to give, he simply needs time to warm up to his new family. If you think you have the time to devote to helping George become accustomed to his new home, make you sure you apply today. You will not be disappointed. George is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $400
