Learn more about the Chihuahua. Lily of the Valley is the most delicate flower to appear each Spring. It is also known as Ladder to Heaven, Our Lady’s Tears, and Fairy Cups. In the language of flowers, Lily of the Valley signifies a “return to happiness and joy”. Our tiny Lily shares many of these same ideals – she is certainly a delicate little lady, and she brings joy to anyone she meets. Lily is a 6-month-old chihuahua mix, with a snow-white coat highlighted by a polka-dot tiara and one solitary black dot at the base of her tail. Beauty in its simplest and purest form. There is something very special we need to share about Lily! While in her foster home we noticed Lily did not respond like the other dogs. At first, we thought she just didn’t know her name but we soon realized that she may not be able to hear. During her spay, we asked the vet to evaluate her and it is confirmed that Lily is most likely deaf. The vet believes she was born this way which is actually a good thing because she has also learned how to compensate well for it. So well in fact that at first take, you may not even realize she has a deficit. Other then the hearing impairment Lily is a completely normal puppy! She plays, runs & tumbles like any other puppy. She loves treats and snuggles. Deaf dogs are totally trainable and that much more lovable!!! Please don’t let this stop you from adopting this adorable girl! Lily pays very close attention to her humans – she will be looking for facial clues & hand signals to determine her next step. She is very eager to please and learns quickly. She loves to be outside and knows to go potty outside, although there will be accidents due to her young age and a new home environment. As with any puppy, patience is key to a well-behaved adult dog. Lily loves to be held and to be cuddled. She sleeps beneath the blankets, burrowed down deep. She rides well in the car in her doggie seatbelt. She swept the drive-thru girls off their feet at Dunkin Donuts and scored TWO munchkins instead of the usual one munchkin. She does great getting a bath in the sink – no struggles or fights with the sprayer. She is tolerant of getting her nails clipped, no growling, or turning into an uncontrollable wiggle worm. She loves to look her best! She is working on crate training and will bark initially when confined but does settle down. She does not have accidents in her crate overnight and can be left for short periods during the day with no problems at all. She will also bark when someone comes near her home. She is aware of her role as a “guard dog” and takes it very seriously. This behavior, however, would not be appropriate in an apartment. For safety reasons we want Lily to have a house - with a fenced-in yard (no invisible). This will also act as another level of protection due to her hearing deficiency. If there is another small playful dog in the home she would love it but it’s not required. We would also like children to be aged 10+ years. Lily is a gorgeous girl with a lively spirit. She is not minimized by her hearing deficiency – it maximizes her inner beauty and her ability to love unconditionally. There are a lot of resources online and Facebook groups regarding deaf dogs. Please do your research before applying! She will need a very protective dog parent to be vigilant and watch over her like a guardian angel. If this is you please apply! Lily is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped and flea/worm treated. Her adoption fee is $400
