Learn more about the Dachshund. Learn more about the Jack Russell Terrier. Maggie is an approximate 5/6 month old Jack Russel/Dachshund mix. She weighs 16 pounds. Maggie had a tough start early on in life being given away free a couple of times on Facebook but luckily for her, she ended up in the right hands. We were told she spent a lot of time in a crate, sometimes Days with only random bathroom breaks and was not fed as much or as often as a young puppy should be. Due to this Maggie does have some food and crate aggression towards other dogs - never to people. When Maggie first came to her foster home she would drink and eat everything in sight. You could tell she knew what hunger was. So sad at such a young age but she doesn’t do that anymore as she has learned what a full belly feels like. Maggie is fostered with many other dogs and puppies and as long as she is fed alone in her crate the food aggression continues to improve and really has not been an issue.
Maggie is such a free spirit. She has a huge heart and just loves everything and everyone she meets. She loves toys and will entertain herself and her foster family for hours with her antics. She is so adorable when she chases butterflies around the yard with such curiosity and enthusiasm. Everything is new and exciting for her. Maggie is obsessed with sticks. She will carry them around all day long - the bigger the better for her! Her foster family has been working on fetch but Maggie doesn’t think she should have to bring anything back once it is given to her- she will, however, throw it around herself for your enjoyment lol! She is a huge ball of energy and LOVES to play with other dogs. She would love a dog her size or bigger to wrestle with as she’s a rough player. Maggie is an annoying puppy who doesn’t take no for an answer so if you do have a dog that is small or does not like to play She would not be a good choice for you.
We would love for Maggie to have a fenced-in yard of her own as for some reason she becomes very fearful on a leash. She is however nicely crate trained and will sleep quietly with no accidents all night long. Housebreaking has been a breeze with a doggy door and fenced in yard as she is so smart she picks up on things very quickly. Please know that any change in environment and routine will likely result in accidents until she becomes acclimated to her new life with you. She is still a baby after all. Maggie has not been around cats That we know of but we are certain she will make it a point to annoy them as much as possible because in Maggie’s mind she thinks everyone is here to play her. Maggie has lived with and has been around many kids. She is very tolerant but kids should be taught to be respectful to her.
Maggie would be a great addition to an active family. Although she loves to lay on your lap once she gets tired she is a busy girl with a lot of energy. She can keep up with another high energy dog, a runner, someone who likes to hike (once leash trained), or even a family who would love to have an agility dog. Maggie is so smart and would love formal training, nose classes or anything to challenge her mentally. We think she would be a top performer for sure! If Maggie Has captured your heart as she has ours please apply!
Maggie is Spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated. Her adoption fee is $400
