Learn more about the Chihuahua. Look at those ears! That is the first thing everyone says when they meet this beauty. Caramel was rescued as a stray in Texas last year – very frightened and very pregnant. Caramel was also heartworm positive throughout her pregnancy. She gave birth to 3 beautiful, healthy pups (2 girls and 1 boy) who have all been adopted into wonderful homes. For those wondering – yes, the girls did inherit their mama’s big ears! Now that she raised her puppies and they have started their lives with their new families, it is Caramel’s turn to find her forever home.
Caramel is a 2 year old chiweenie (chihuahua/dachshund mix) with a little bit of junk in the trunk. She had her babies & like most women know – that baby weight doesn’t come off easily! Caramel is very happy being a curvy girl, though her foster mama has been working to try to help her lose a little weight. Caramel’s fur is a party of golden-tones: pale cream around her face and chest, golden brown toasted marshmallow on her body and a deep cocoa running down her back. She has those little Doxie legs so she can do a few stairs, but she would currently need to be carried up an entire flight. Caramel is missing a few teeth on the right side of her mouth, which gives her a bit of a crooked smile. This doesn’t impact her ability to eat her kibble though! And her smile is priceless.
Caramel is very affectionate – tons of kisses for all who visit her. She wants to be in your lap to watch television or while you scroll through social media. She wants to be next to you in bed, burrowed under the covers. She wants to sit by you outside in the sunshine. She loves to ride in the car and go through the drive-thru at Dunkin Donuts.
Caramel uses potty pads in her foster home and also goes potty outside, but accidents could occur as she adjusts to a new routine in a new home. Please be patient with her. She is good on a leash and comes when she is called. She is eager to please and loves to be around people. She plays with the other dogs in her foster home and loves the soft squeaky toys. Caramel will bark with the other dogs in her foster home, but rarely starts it herself. She is mainly a quiet, loving, snuggly, cuddly, curvy girl.
Caramel is a little fighter – she carried a little and gave birth while battling heartworm and came through the difficult treatments and healing process with flying colors. Caramel will require a heartworm preventative for the rest of her life. Heartworm medication ranges from $40-$75 a year depending on the brand of medicine you choose. Heartworm prevention is a non-negotiable requirement for the family that chooses to adopt Caramel. Caramel is spayed, up to date with vaccined, microchipped and has gone through heartworm treatment. Her adoption fee is $350
