Learn more about the Chihuahua.

Riley is a 10-year-old 8-pound chihuahua.  Riley was originally given to a dog sitter when his family didn’t want him anymore.  Then after a short time, the dog sitter had to move which led to him being left in a shelter.  As you can imagine this guy was very scared as shelters are no place for tiny dogs so they reached out to rescue for help!

Riley is a very well mannered, well behaved little boy.  His favorite thing to do is cuddle under the blankets.  He will lay with you for hours if you let him! Other then some nervous marking the first couple days he appears to be housebroken.  He will go to the door to go outside once he learns your routine but please expect accidents in the beginning.  He has after all been moved around quite a bit the past few months.  Riley is also crate trained. As long as you provide comfy blankets he does not make a peep.  Riley did wonderful with numerous dogs in the shelter and in his foster home but due to his age and size, we would prefer he be placed with dogs similar in size. He loves to be outside in the nice weather. On nice sunny days, you can see him patrolling the yard with his tail up in the air just as happy as can be.  He does well in the car and loves Duncan Donuts pup cups!  He also loves scrambled eggs and is a professional beggar LOL. He is great on a leash and is a good little walker.

Riley loves people and loves attention but he gets a little nervous sometimes when he is being picked up.  As long as you pet him on the head and be gentle and slow he is totally fine and enjoys being held And loved on.  He gives lots of kisses when I’m your arms.   He was kid-tested and he does like them but does not want them to pick him up so older kids in the home would be preferred.  He does bark at cats when he sees them outside and will let you know if there is something going on that shouldn't be in the neighborhood.  He is not overly vocal at all - just typical.   His bark is big so if you live in an apartment that is busy, please take that into consideration.

Riley had a recent vet visit where he was diagnosed with a grade 2 (low) heart murmur. The vet did not feel any further workup was needed at this time since it was very low and he has no symptoms.  It will be something to keep an eye on for the future but right now he is fine and does not require any medication. He also had recent blood work which showed a healthy 10 years old boy!

Riley is a great little dog who would love a forever home of his own.  If you pick Riley you won’t be sorry he is a love and will make a great companion.

Riley is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, tested neg for heartworm and has been given a dental.  His adoption fee is $175
