Silky Terrier (long coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Senior : : Medium
Learn more about the Silky Terrier. This handsome fellow is Alfie! Alfie is a senior Silky Terrier that came to us from the City of Buffalo Shelter. Alfie was adopted out previously but when the family became displaced, he found himself back at the shelter. Alfie is a nice boy. He loves to be outside and goes out all day long if he can! He appears to be housetrained but please expect some adjustment time. He walks nicely on the leash so a fenced yard is not required although Alfie would like it. Alfie does ok with other dogs - he does not want to be jumped on or bothered by them though so if there is another dog in the home, it should be low key. Alfie is crate trained but will sometimes have a negative reaction if he feels forced. We let him go in by himself and come out on his own and he is fine. He prefers a wire crate to the plastic ones but will go into a plastic kennel if it is large. Alfie is good in the car and will jump right in. Alfie is affectionate and will give kisses. He likes to be praised and will give you the sweetest look. Older kids would be fine. We are on the fence with how Alfie is with cats - as long as they aren't too much in his face, he will be ok. Alfie's ideal home would be quieter, low energy and lots of love. Alfie has a history of seizures but has not had one in his foster home so we are not sure of the frequency. He has been checked out by our vet and no meds are necessary at this time or maybe ever. Alfie has been bounced around and his next home should be his last. Alfie will need regular grooming every few months too - please take that into consideration because we do not want him to get so matted and dirty again. Alfie will need an adjustment time in his new home - he needs time to be decompress to change and to just let him adjust. He's a good dog but if he is unsure of what is going on and it's upsetting to him. He needs some time to get to know you and trust you and he likes routine. He does not want to be hugged or picked up. He can get where he is going on his own lol. Alfie has nipped at people and needs someone that understands terriers and will not allow him to be boss. He listens well and if he is giving you a hard time, needs to be told so. Please understand he is a senior dog and set in his ways. We do not want Alfie bounced around so please be take this into consideration. Alfie is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $175
