Dachshund (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Small
Learn more about the Dachshund. Charlotte is a 5 year old dachshund that was dumped with her friend Willy at a VERY high kill gassing shelter in North Carolina. She was set to be euthanized because she was scared! Well we were not going to let that happen - somehow we found a way to get her to Buffalo! Charlotte is heartworm positive. We knew she was when she came to us and that did not deter us from helping her. Heartworm is not contagious to other dogs and can be cured. She is currently undergoing treatment and has another treatment scheduled in another month. Pixie Mamas will pay for her treatment and she will continue to see her current vet as part of the process. Charlotte will need to stay on heartworm preventive for the rest of her life just to be safe! Now that the bad news is over - let's focus on the good stuff! Charlotte is very sweet and gentle! She is good with other dogs and seems to be fine with cats. She is leash trained and house trained but this Southern gal needs to be encouraged to go out when it is cold! She is wonderfully crate trained too. Charlotte is good with kids, older kids are probably better. Charlotte will be happy with other dogs in the house or could be the only dog in the house. She is a laid back, quiet and sweet. We hope you look past her condition and consider this sweet gal - she overcame a lot to get here and we want her to find the best home ever! Charlotte is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and currently undergoing heartworm treatment. She has an overnight appointment scheduled at the end of March and hopefully in June will be declared heartworm free!! Her adoption fee is $200.
