Learn more about the Bichon Frise.

Harmony is a 9 month old Bichon-Poo and about 8 lbs.  She has been with us since she was a young puppy due to being born with a Right eye deformity.

She has eye structures inside the orbit but there is not a functioning eyeball and therefore she has no sight on that side.  We thought originally she would need to have the eyeball removed and sewn closed but our vet and his partner decided that was not in her best interest. As explained to us, you cannot just sew the hole closed you would have to remove everything inside the eye socket which is very extensive, painful and not necessary.  Other then the eyeball everything else inside like her tear ducts etc are functioning normally.  They felt very strongly that we should not put her through that and of course we want what is best for Harmony so we agreed.  That being said, she has few limitations and no idea she is different from other dogs.  We have had her in rescue for months with no problems so we are sure we made the right decision for Harmony and that she is ready for her forever home.

Harmony is a very old soul. She plays, she likes some toys, cow hooves,  loves other dogs and absolutely LOVES to be outside but she is not at all a typical puppy.  Harmony is calm, timid, shy, quiet (unless she is playing), very well-behaved and so, so smart.  She is not destructive, she is not a nuisance barker but she is an excellent watchdog and boy does she have a big bark for such a little girl. She acts like an older dog, she’s not highly energetic, she’s more of a couch potato, a little lover, someone wise beyond her 9 months. Instead of being a careless dopey puppy she is more of a thinker.  She is submissive, she sits back when new people come over as opposed to running to them for attention.  She is a watcher, and she makes sure everything is safe in her environment before she proceeds.  She has been like this from the time we have gotten her. She just has a very cautious personality.  Once she is comfortable and feels safe though she is very affectionate and loves her family very much.  She loves treats and learned sit in two tries but you do need to remember she can only see out of one eye so it does take a little extra effort on your part. Harmony is very smart and very sensitive, she wants nothing more then to please you and responds very well to positive reinforcement.

Despite her looks Harmony is not a girly girl, she will play rough, wrestle hard and dirt (mud) doesn’t bother her one bit!  If you are looking for a prissy little poodle to put in your purse that is not at all Harmony! She is doggy door trained and loves to sit outside in the sun for hours.  If you garden or spend lots of time outdoors in the summer, this might be your girl! Harmony is working on her leash skills but she is not very confident and she doesn’t love it. She is afraid at first but then follows along once you get going.  She is very smart and very trainable and we think she will do better and better as she gains more confidence.  Although, it won't be required a home with a fully fenced yard (no electric/invisible fences) will be considered first because it would make her the happiest.  The same goes for having another dog in the home, she doesn’t need it, but a little playmate would be wonderful for both of them.  Harmony is very kind to all dogs and if a dog says stop, she immediately backs off (again, not the typical annoying puppy).

Harmony isn’t fond of young children.  Their energy and unpredictability do not mesh well with her cautious personality.  She has been around a quiet, soft-spoken 11-year-old girl though and loved her to pieces so an older child or adult-only home will be best for Harmony. Harmony scares easily and would not thrive or enjoy a chaotic, busy home so please take that into consideration before you apply.  Harmony will also need regular grooming throughout her lifetime about every 8 weeks. Her groomer is totally in love with her and says she is every groomer's dream, in fact, she fell asleep on the table the last time LOL.  She is crate trained and hasn’t had an accident in her crate for many months.  She is housebroken with a doggy door but please know that she will probably regress and have some accidents when placed in her new home until she learns about her new family and routines.  She has been with us since she was very little and knows nothing else so your home and family will be a big change for her.

We are very excited for Harmony to find her new family and we know whoever adopts this precious girl will love her as much as we do!

Harmony is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  She has also been professionally groomed.  Her adoption fee is $500
