Learn more about the Chihuahua. Mandy is an 8-year-old apricot dapple chihuahua. Her fur is the color of peaches & cream, or a melting creamsicle on a hot summer day. Mandy was surrendered to us from a breeder. She made a bunch of beautiful babies – but those days are behind her now. She didn’t have much exposure to humans or other animals in her previous life, but she is making up for that now.
Mandy loves affection, but it takes a little time for her to warm up to people. She wants to be in the mix of everything – but on the edges, on her own terms. She will be in a dog bed in the living room while all the other dogs are stretched out on the couch watching TV. She will sleep in the bedroom, but not on the big bed with her foster mom & the other dogs – she wants her own dog bed. She loves a good belly rub & will flip right over once she knows she is safe and the humans around her can be trusted.
Mandy LOVES to eat! She is SO excited when food is involved. She will bark at full volume and dance while she is waiting to be fed. Coming in a close second to food is going outside. As soon as you say the magic words, she is doing another happy dance (and barking full volume) until you get her outside. Since Mandy is just unable to contain her excitement and does not know how to use her “indoor voice”, she will not be a good fit in an apartment.
Mandy is working on her leash training and doing very well! She is using potty pads inside while her foster mom is at work and knows to go potty outside. She is putting all the pieces together. She is a smart girl who learns quickly & her confidence is building every single day.
Mandy has very unique eyes. Sometimes she may look crazed, other times she looks sleepy or deep in thought. Her pupils are mottled – she was born this way – and it affects her peripheral vision and depth perception. She can see straight on without issue, but can be a little clumsy with things not in her direct sight line.
Mandy is not a “Velcro dog”. She isn’t overly clingy or super needy. You can go to the bathroom alone – she doesn’t care. You can go put a load of wash into the dryer – she doesn’t care. She will still be laying in her dog bed when you come back into the room. You can pace the room while you talk on the phone – she won’t be underfoot trying to capture your attention. She watches. She guards. She protects. Still waters run deep for her. There is a ton of love just below the surface for the person who has the patience to let Mandy show them how magnificent she truly is.
It has been a long road for Mandy to get this far. She is now coming into her own, learning who she is and her role in her home life. She is learning and growing every single day. It has been exciting for her foster mom to watch her progress. She deserves time and patience for her to succeed. The reward for such patience is going to be extraordinary for the person lucky enough to make her part of their family. Mandy is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $350
