Learn more about the Chihuahua. Learn more about the Dachshund.

It's not easy being the big brother. You help raise your siblings – you protect them, you guide them, teach them, make sure they are all taken care of before you take care of yourself. Perry is the oldest of 7 siblings! He was the first one born and stuck close to his mama’s side as he & his brothers and sisters grew up. Perry did an excellent job taking care of everybody – his mama is adopted and all 7 siblings are adopted. Now it's his turn to find his forever home.

Perry is a 5 month old, 16 lb. Chiweenie mix. His mama was a chihuahua/dachshund mix. His dad – who knows? He was a midnight Romeo who disappeared with the dawn. Perry has always been significantly bigger than the other puppies – he was knocking his mama over while trying to nurse from her! Whoever his dad was – Perry got his size and strength. Looking at the size of his paws, we estimate he will be around 30 lbs when full grown.

Perry is at his “awkward teen stage” currently. He is all elbows and knees. He doesn’t realize how big he is or how heavy he is. Sometimes he rolls off the couch because he doesn't realize how much room he needs. He once ran head-first into the gate at the edge of the driveway because he got up to full speed and just couldn’t get those long legs under control to slow down in time. He may make mistakes, but he learns from every single one. He is a very smart boy.

He has been blessed with a very expressive face – you can see those adorable wrinkles come into play while he is figuring something out. He looks like he has the weight of the world on those shoulders! But under all those skin folds, he is a truly happy, loving puppy. He has also been blessed with a really big bark. He sounds much bigger than he actually is! Protection of his home and loved ones is very big on Perry’s list of responsibilities. If he sees something outside – he will bark. If he hears something in the middle of the night (even if you don’t hear it) he will bark. He is not taking any chances. If you are eating a great big ham sandwich and he wants a bite, he will bark. Because of this, Perry will not be a good fit for apartment living.

Perry is working on his housebreaking. His foster mom works, so he is using potty pads during the day. He loves to be outside and is putting the pieces together that he needs to go potty outside too – outside is not just for running and wrestling with the other doggies in his home. He is very proud to receive a treat when he comes inside after he has gone potty outside! He knows he earned it. He will require additional training in his new home – please remember he is a baby and he won't learn everything immediately. He will need patience and love from his new family in order for him to grow into the amazing dog he is meant to be.

It may take a minute or two for Perry to warm up to new people. Once he knows they are safe – for him and for his family – he turns into a cuddle bug. He loves to be snuggled and held. He is still nervous about being picked up. If you come up on him too quickly or grab him without warning, he may dribble pee on you. It is not intentional – you startled him. There is nothing he loves better than a warm lap – and you will never be able to get him out of your lap once he is in there – but it's best to let him get up there himself...at least until he is comfortable in his new home.

Perry has not been tested with children or cats. He is a puppy, though – a blank slate – ready to learn anything and everything his new parents want to teach him. He is not leash trained, but certainly smart enough to learn that as well. Perry learned the basics from his mom. He shared his knowledge with his siblings. His further life education falls to the family who opens their heart and home to him. With love and support, he will be an unstoppable shining star!

Perry is neutered, up to date with age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated.  His adoption fee is $400
