Learn more about the Cocker Spaniel.

Hope is a beautiful American Cocker Spaniel.  She weighs about 25 lbs.  According to her paperwork, she is 5 years old but our vet feels she is more like 8-10.  She came to us heartworm positive.  She has gone through treatment without any issues and has been cleared for adoption.  Hope will need to be on heartworm preventative for her lifetime.

Hope is the epitome of A Cocker Spaniel.  If you love the breed you will absolutely love Hope!  She loves her person and is always underfoot.  She wants to be everywhere you are and to be included in all family activities.  Hope was someone’s baby at one time as she is well trained and very well behaved. Hope is very smart and caught on to her foster family's routine almost immediately.  She learned the doggy door the same day she got here and has never had an accident in the house.  She also does not want to get on the furniture or in your bed so those must have been the rules in her last home but we oftentimes ask her to come on the couch for some cuddles. She obliges after some coaxing of course.

Hope has a cataract in her one eye which slightly affects her vision.  We asked the vet if she needed a consult and he said it doesn’t bother her and he did not recommend further workup at this time.  She was also spayed and they did find a little mammary tumor which was removed and sent for biopsy.  Unfortunately, it did come back as cancer but the vet said if it had to be cancer it was the best kind.  Since mammary glands run in a chain there is a chance new nodules may pop up in her life but as long as they are removed she will likely die from something else, not cancer.  He recommends that whoever adopts her rubs her belly often and does not skip annual vet exams so she can be monitored.

Hope is very soft, her coat is very manageable with daily brushing but she will need regular grooming (about every 6-8 weeks) so keep that in mind before you adopt her. Her ears look nice and clean and other than weekly maintenance we have not had to do anything else.  Hope is very happy for attention, very cooperative with care, and very eager to please so there should be no issues there.

Hope does like to walk on a leash and she loves to go for rides.  She does get upset and cries if you leave without her as she just wants to be with you always.  She does not like the crate, she will go in one if you ask her to but it’s not her favorite thing to do.  If you are familiar with Cockers I am sure you have heard the “cocker howl”.  I will tell you she has one heck of a howl.  She doesn’t do it often but boy when she does you will know it LOL.  Hope has been around numerous dogs and she doesn’t play but she can live with them just fine as long as they respect her space.  She has been around a 9 year old girl and was her best friend in the whole world, in fact, she was the only one at first who could coax her on the couch.  She jumped right up in her lap and just rubbed all over her.

Hope is a great dog and is missing her family.  She deserves a home of her own with people who will show her love and kindness.  She is a very loving, good-natured dog who has a lot to offer her people. She is calm and easy to love.  She would be perfect for a senior who wants a little buddy to love or a family home often to spend time with her.  We do not think she would be happy being left home for long periods of time.  If you think you are a fit for Hope and can financially take care of her possible future medical needs please apply. You won't be sorry with this girl!!

Hope is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated.  Her adoption fee is $350
