Learn more about the Maltese.

It’s Nay Nay, baby!

Nay Nay is a 1-year-old Maltese/Poodle mix – she is a “Maltipoo”!  She arrived in Western New York as one gigantic tangle of hair.  It fell over eyes that were thickly crusted and she was skin and bones beneath the tangles.  She quickly went straight to the groomer for a bath and haircut.  She was nervous and flinching on the table, as the dirty matted hair fell away and her feet were trimmed clear.  Each individual toe had to be cut free in order to get rid of the long claws she had for nails and allow her to stand properly.  She was tentative once she was placed back on the ground – she had been walking on matted hair for so long, the ground seemed strange and uncomfortable.

It didn’t take long for her to decide that she loves to be outside, loves the cooler temps and the rustling leaves.  She is leash trained and adores walking through the neighborhood and seeing everyone.  She knows to potty outside and runs out into the fenced-in yard with her foster brothers & sisters when it is potty time.  She is trying to figure out potty pads.  They are in her home since her foster mom works and she sees the other dogs use them…she just hasn’t committed to that process.  She would much rather potty outside.  There will probably be accidents in her new home as she learns your routine and adjusts to a new home.  Please be patient with her.  She is a smart girl and really wants to please her people.  She will make the effort.

Nay Nay loves to snuggle, cuddle down in your lap – and even sleep around your neck if you let her get away with that!  She is food motivated and will sit up on her back legs with “begging paws” if you have something yummy and when you first come home.  She has a very strange style of barking…the regular small dog bark, of course…but she also has a deep-in-her-throat, gargling type of whine when she wants your attention.  It is either adorable or annoying – you will need to decide that for yourself.  Either way, it is 100% unique Nay Nay style!

Nay Nay will bark when you leave…and continue to bark in hopes that you will reconsider and come back home to her.  She has a big mouth when she chooses to use it, and for this reason, Nay Nay would not be a good fit for an apartment.  She has not been tested with children or with cats.  Due to her small size, a home with older children who can respect her petite & delicate self would be necessary.

Nay Nay will also bark at new people but settles down once she realizes you are safe and she can trust you.  She warms up quickly.  Nay Nay has hair – not fur – and that requires regular grooming to keep her healthy and beautiful.  It is probable that her original owners were unaware, unable, or unwilling to keep up with her grooming and the cost associated with it.  It was painfully obvious that her first time on a grooming table happened once she reached Buffalo.  It was the beginning of many wonderful things that are going to happen to her now that she has arrived.

Nay Nay is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $600 to help with our high medical, hospice and long term foster dogs in our rescue.
