Pomeranian (long coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Small
Learn more about the Pomeranian. This little fluff ball is Uno! He is an 8 year old Pomeranian and just 6 lbs. Uno was an owner surrender to a local shelter. He was sent to rescue due to being fearful.
We are unsure of Uno's past but we can guess that he was not shown much (if any) affection as he is very uncomfortable receiving it. Uno would cower in the corner originally when anyone tried to pet him and growl due to fear. Although he still doesn’t always seek attention he has learned to enjoy being pet and especially enjoys belly rubs. Uno still does not like to be picked up and becomes very stiff but he will allow it. Due to his past we will not be placing him with young children.
Uno had a dental with extractions last year. The vet did notice some neurological deficits upon exam but since they have been unchanged in over a year there is no need for any further testing or intervention. The deficits involve him walking backwards with his head tilted to the right and his front paw flipping over and he does not fix it right away. They are mild deficits that he was probably born with but noticeable so we are mentioning it here. They do not affect his daily living. He also has a heart murmur common in small Breed dogs. He does not have any symptoms so it just needs to be monitored during his yearly vet visits.
Uno does bark quite a bit in typical Pomeranian fashion so please take that into consideration when applying. He will also need regular grooming but despite his uncomfortableness with affection he actually loves being groomed.
Uno is not leash trained and also not housebroken. He will go outside if you Take him but he won’t usually ask. He still marks in the house at times and we have found a poop here and there. He is however crate trained. He loves dog beds of any kind and spends a lot of time sleeping in them.
Uno is fostered with many other dogs and mostly keeps to himself. He does not play nor does he want to. He does not enjoy active dogs who get in his face and try to engage with him. He does not always want to share his bed or his food. He is not mean and he doesn’t hurt anyone but he is vocal and makes sure they know he didn’t like it. He is okay with cats.
Although Uno isn’t a sit on your lap kind of dog we have noticed that he does actually bond to his human. He follows his foster mom all over the home and he does seek comfort from her when he is afraid. He lays at her feet when she works and sometimes even puts his paw on her and lets her know when he needs something (food, water etc). Uno is very routine oriented and reminds you when it’s time to eat as it’s his favorite time of day.
In the past year while in rescue Uno has really come out of his shell. He may never be a happy go lucky dog that jumps in your lap and gives kisses but he is still sweet and wants to be loved (in his way). He is definitely a handsome devil and would be a great companion for someone. If you think your home is a match for uno please apply.
Uno is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. He has also been given a dental. His adoption fee is $300
