Terrier / Mixed (long coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Young : : Small
Colt is a 1 year old terrier mix and just 9 lbs! He came in with a few others from Texas. The group was found on the side of the road dirty, hungry and full of fleas. A Good Samaritan took them in and kept them safe until a rescue was found. Colt was absolutely terrified of people. He would sit in the corner praying you wouldn’t come near him. They did not appear to live inside a home before as everything was very foreign to them. They have been in a foster home for months now and Colt has improved quite a bit. He is becoming a little more confident every day and curious about his surroundings. He has worked very hard on crate training and housebreaking. He does not go to the bathroom in his crate and is amazing most of the time outside of the crate if you are home. He will wear a belly band without any issues should you choose to use one. His newest accomplishment is that he will go in and out the door all by himself to go potty. It may seem like such a small thing but the group has had to be carried in and out for months. To know he feels safe enough to do it on his own makes us feel confident that he is ready to start a new adventure in a forever home. Colt has NO aggression issues at all just fear. Adopting Colt will be a big commitment from the right person. He is very timid, shy and afraid of everything new. He will approach his foster family, take treats from their hands and accept some affection but he has never offered any in return. We do hope that with more one on one and being separated from his brothers that it will improve but we want his family to know that it may not. We do expect him to regress when he is moved to his new home but we feel that with every new experience it will get easier and easier for him. Colt would really benefit from another confident dog in the home to follow and he needs a secure fenced in yard (no electric or invisible fences)! The leash is terrifying and he is not ready to learn that yet. Baby steps! When colt is outside in his yard he becomes the happiest dog in the world. He runs and has the biggest smile on his face. We hope one day he will carry that same smile to inside the house but for now we love to watch him enjoying some part of his life! Colt has been around an 8 year old child with no problems but due to his fear we would prefer older kids in the home. Loud playing, yelling and a lot of activity would not be the right place for him. If you think you have the experience, patience and unconditional love that Colt needs to thrive please apply. He has so much potential to be someone’s little lap dog and we would love more then anything for that to happen for him.
Colt is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $400
