Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Young
Learn more about the Chihuahua. Nova was one of four little dogs found on the side of the road in Texas by a Good Samaritan. She kept the dogs in an outdoor kennel to keep them safe but realized they needed more then she could provide. He is about a year old. We believe he is a chihuahua mix and about 10 pounds.
The dogs were filthy, flea ridden and underweight when they arrived. All four were extremely skittish of people and have been in foster care for a while just working on socialization. Nova has exceeded the bunch and is the first one available for adoption. He is so beautiful. His coat has grown in so nice and he is so soft. He is healthy and happy and we think he will do wonderful in a home of his own with more one on one attention.
We expect that when Nova first arrives to his new home there will be some temporary set backs. He may revert back to being shy at first until he gets to know his new family but we don’t think it will last to long at all.
Nova is Playful and energetic. He is fostered with dogs with no issues. There is a cat in the home and there has been normal cat/dog behavior with the cat instigating the bark/chase. If she leaves him alone he will do the same. He also lives with chickens and is respectful of their space. He loves his fenced in yard. He is working on leash training but is not leash trained. He is almost potty trained but please expect accidents, especially at first until he learns to trust you and learn your routine. He loves to hang out with his foster mom in the kitchen when She cooks and loves to be in the yard following his foster dad around doing anything. He LOVES his foster dad the most!! He has been around an 8 year old child and although she is not his favorite person he has shown no aggression towards her at all. We do think older kids who will respect his boundaries, especially in the beginning would be best.
He takes treats nice. He is starting to seek out a warm lap and is warming up to strangers faster and faster every time. We couldn’t be prouder of Nova and all he has overcome. He is learning to trust and receive love from humans and we are happy to be able to give him this chance at a wonderful new life.
If you have the time and patience to continue working with Nova to make him the happy confident dog he was meant to be please apply! He is totally worth it. Nova is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $400
