Learn more about the Chihuahua. Everybody knows a “mama’s boy”. And every mama’s boy reaches a time in his life when he has to “cowboy up” and step away from the apron strings. Our Pickles has just made that huge step. Pickles was rescued in Texas with his mama. Living in his own foster home, Pickles is taking the first steps toward growing up – getting his own place, being away from mama and making his own decisions. Pickles is approximately 1 year old, born with a perfect runner's body. He is long & lean with a tight waist and long, long L-O-N-G legs. His black and white markings are very unique and highly distinctive. He is certainly a show stopper to look at! Pickles is gaining confidence away from his mother. Because he is so young, his personality is still developing. He will look at you adoringly – but then drop his eyes as soon as you look back. He wants to be petted and is very affectionate, on his own terms. He will poke you with a paw if you stop stroking his fur & rubbing behind his ears, but he will just as easily get up & move out of your reach if you try to cuddle too hard too fast. He dictates the level of affection. He is trying hard to be his own man, finding his voice and finding his boundaries. He is doing really well with house breaking. He goes potty outside and uses potty pads in the house. He is a young boy so please be patient if there are accidents as he transitions to a new home and routine. Pickles loves to please his people and wants to do the right thing, but he is still learning. He is not leash trained. He is very nervous with the harness and adding the leash seems to increase his anxiety. His foster mom is still working with him on it, but progress has been slow. Pickles will require a fenced-in yard (no invisible fences); he runs like the wind when he is going at full throttle. He is a little black & white blur racing across the lawn! He should be in a house with another dog – he still needs someone to follow, someone to teach him, someone to show him the ropes. Older, respectful children should do fine with him. He does bark upon meeting new folks & it may take him a few encounters before he can be sure the newcomer can be trusted and he can stop protecting his family from them. Pickles will require some patience – he has been through quite a bit, and is now navigating the world on his own. He is nervous and sometimes frightened…like we all were when we first ventured out on our own. But with love & support, he will be an all-star. He has all the pieces – he just needs the right home to help him put the puzzle together. Pickles is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $400
